Last updated: April 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Bookami ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use the Bookami mobile application ("App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with transparency and care.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- —Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.
- —Reading data: Your reading progress (percentage complete), reading status (Reading, Completed, Want to Read), when you started and last read a book, and your personal library organization.
- —Support communications: If you contact us through the in-app contact form or by email, we collect the content of your message and your contact details.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- —Usage data: Features you use, books you browse, search queries, and general interaction patterns within the App.
- —Device information: Device type, operating system version, app version, and crash logs used for debugging and maintaining App compatibility.
- —Authentication tokens: Identifiers provided by Google or Apple to verify your identity on subsequent sign-ins, stored securely on our servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect strictly to provide and improve the App. Specifically:
- —To create and manage your account and authenticate you across sessions and devices.
- —To sync your reading progress, library, and bookshelves so they are consistent across all your devices.
- —To power your personalized home screen (featured picks, currently reading, popular books).
- —To respond to your support requests and inquiries.
- —To analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to improve features and fix bugs.
- —To send you important service-related notices, such as updates to these policies.
We do not use your information for advertising purposes, sell your data to third parties, or build advertising profiles.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- —Service providers: We may share data with trusted third-party providers who help us operate the App (such as cloud hosting). These providers are contractually bound to keep your data confidential and may not use it for their own purposes.
- —Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required by applicable law, court order, subpoena, or other governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.
- —Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of all or part of our assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you via the App or email before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- —With your consent: We may share your information with third parties when you have explicitly consented to such sharing.
4. Third-Party Authentication
The App uses Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In for authentication. When you use these services:
- —Your authentication is handled directly by Google or Apple on their secure servers. We never see or store your password.
- —We receive only the information those services share with us — typically your name, email address, and a unique identifier.
- —Your use of Google Sign-In is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Your use of Apple Sign-In is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can revoke Bookami's access to your Google or Apple account at any time through those providers' account settings pages.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information and reading data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the App, we will permanently delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records for longer.
Anonymized and aggregated data, which cannot be used to identify you, may be retained indefinitely for analytical purposes.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure server infrastructure, and access controls limiting who within our team can access user data.
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected].
